Depth
A 3 to 5 ft "sport" floor suits games and uses less water. A deep end of 8 ft or more is usually only needed for diving, which also requires a board-rated design. Ask your builder and check local code: diving often sets strict size rules.
Vinyl, fiberglass or concrete?
Fiberglass shells come in fixed sizes, and road transport tends to limit their width. Vinyl kits are sold in the standard sizes. Concrete can be any size or shape, at a higher cost.
